Despite passing the halfway point of the 2025 Formula One season, the F1 driver and constructors' standings currently feature a mix of surprise and expected results.

Whether it’s Redbull's descent to the middle after a dynastic run in the early 2020s, the close battle at the top of the drivers' ladder, and the fight for the midfield in the constructors', there's no shortage of drama as each team looks to finish on top of their rivals.

If you're just tuning into the 2025 F1 season, here is everything you need to know so far.

Disclaimer: The numbers listed in this story are accurate as of the Belgium Grand Prix, which finished on July 27, 2025.

Heading into the 2025 F1 season, it’s clear that the top teams are gunning for McLaren, after the British marque took home the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.

While McLaren prioritised the more experienced driver in Lando Norris in seasons past, Melbourne-born Oscar Piastri is giving Norris a run for his money.

The Australian F1 superstar currently leads the Drivers’ Championship with 266 points. Piastri has already taken home six pole finishes in 13 races, with the 23-year-old driver more recently finishing first once again in the Belgium Grand Prix on July 27, 2025.

Norris isn’t too far behind at second, with the British driver accumulating 250 points in 13 races, while four-time world champion and lead Redbull driver Max Verstappen is hot on Norris’s heels, ranking third with 185 points.

Mercedes's lead driver, George Russell, is currently fourth in the standings (157 points), thanks to the UK driver’s consistent point scoring throughout this season, culminating in a first-place finish at the Canada Grand Prix in mid-July 2025.

It’s been a whirlwind of a season so far for Ferrari. Despite signing arguably the greatest F1 driver in Lewis Hamilton in the off-season, the team from Maranello continues to suffer a multitude of problems and questionable strategies.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc is currently fifth on the pole, with the Monegasque accruing 139 points so far, while seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton sits in sixth, 30 points behind his teammate.

2025 F1 Constructors' standings

Looking to the Constructors, McLaren continues to run away with the scoreboard, with the Papaya team accruing 516 points after both Piastri and Norris took home first and second place, respectively, in Belgium last Sunday.

After fighting off Verstappen at Spa, Leclerc’s third-place finish added much-needed points to Ferrari’s challenge, with the team from Maranello currently second in the Constructors' Championship (248 points).

Though Mercedes has struggled in the past couple of years, the Silver Arrows are looking to regain their Constructors’ crown, with the British racing team currently in third (220).

Despite its generational run in the early 2020s, Redbull has struggled to maintain its grip on the Constructors', with the Austrian/Thai team currently ranked fourth (192 points).

Arguably more shocking than Redbull’s descent is Williams's fifth-place position on the ladder (70 points). The legacy team is looking to dominate the midfield, piloted by Alexander Albon and newly signed Carlos Sainz.

The next race on the calendar is the Hungarian Grand Prix, which is due to run from August 1 to August 4, 2025. If you want to read all of Drive's F1 coverage, visit our previous stories here.
