Ford has used its annual racing season launch event to tease details of a new supercar, set for a full reveal in 2026.

Alongside details of Ford’s involvement in motorsport categories, including NASCAR, F1, and off-road events like Baja and Dakar, Ford dropped the first hint at what’s to come in the form of a production vehicle.

The Ford Racing-developed vehicle will be previewed next year, with the Ford Racing moniker taking the place of the previous Ford Performance division.

A statement released with the confirmation of the new sports car describes the vehicle as “a testament to how deeply we’re integrating our racing innovation into the vehicles you drive every day.”

Broader details of the Ford Racing production model are still under wraps, but the new halo car is likely to break cover as early as the Detroit Auto Show, which starts on January 15th, 2026.

While the new vehicle is likely to become a successor to the Ford GT, which has had modern revivals in 2004 and 2016, inspired by the original 1964 GT40, it could potentially take on a new direction.

In August 2025, Ford CEO Jim Farley shared his thoughts on what he considered an untapped market segment for high-performance, off-road capable cars, describing the traditional supercar space as “completely overserved”.

At the time, Farley dropped some specification hints, mentioning a 1000-horsepower (746kW) powertrain that is “partially electric”, pointing to a performance hybrid system.

At that time, Farley would not confirm details of the off-road capable performance car, but said, “I’m thinking really deeply about it, and usually that turns into something.”

The timing of Ford’s new supercar shows an accelerated development cycle from Ford’s performance arm, with the last-generation having only wrapped production in 2022, and the specialised Mustang GTD, a road-ready version of the GT3-compliant race car, having only been announced in 2023.

Previously, the gap between the end of production of the first Ford GT and its second-generation successor spanned 10 years.
