2022-2024 Lexus LX and GX recalled in Australia due to engine debris concern

Toyota Motor Corporation Australia has recalled 789 examples of its 2022 to 2024 Lexus LX600 and 2024 Lexus GX550, citing a potential fault with engine machining debris contamination in their 3.4-litre turbocharged petrol V6.

The affected vehicles are stamped 2022 to 2024 models, but may have been sold at a later date.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, there is a possibility of engine machining debris contamination within the engine.

"This could lead to potential engine knocking, rough running and/or stalling during operation causing a loss of motive power.

"A loss of motive power or engine stalling whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."

The Australian recall follows the United States, with Toyota and Lexus recalling 127,000 examples of the non-hybrid Toyota Tundra, Lexus LX and Lexus GX earlier this month due to the same concern.

In May 2024, Toyota and Lexus recalled an additional 102,000 2022 and 2023 Tundras and LXs in the US due to concerns "certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced," with the remedy involving an engine replacement at no cost to customers.

For the latest recall, Toyota USA said it is "currently developing the remedy for this issue," with customers due to be notified by early January 2026.

The Toyota Tundra is not affected by this recall in Australia, as it is fitted with the hybrid version of the 3.4-litre turbocharged petrol V6 engine.

Lexus advises it will contact owners of affected vehicles when a remedy is available, asking them to book an appointment with their dealer for rectification, free of charge.
