Hyundai slashes up to $10,000 off Kona electric SUV

Hyundai Australia has discounted its all-electric Kona small SUV by up to $9600 in the latest promotion that takes the cheapest version to $49,990 drive-away.

This puts the most affordable Hyundai electric vehicle (EV) SUV in line against top-spec versions of Chinese rivals such as the MG S5 ($47,990), as well as the slightly larger BYD Atto 3 and Geely EX5 (both from $44,990 before on-road costs).

The entry-level Kona Electric Standard Range is discounted the least, around $8900 based on its $54,000 before on-road costs price that puts it at around $58,900 drive-away in Victoria.

The Kona Electric Extended Range and Kona Electric Extended Range with N Line kit is now available for $53,990 drive-away and $57,990 respectively, a saving of about $9000 and $9200 each.

Premium grades of the Kona Electric, offered with and without the N Line pack, feature the greatest savings of about $9500 and $9600 respectively, now priced at $63,990 and $66,990.

The base Kona Electric features a 49kWh battery that is rated for 370km of driving range, while its front-drive electric motor produces 99kW/255Nm.

The rest of the Kona Electric line-up sports a larger 65kWh battery – rated for 505km on standard models and 444km on Premium and N Line versions – and more potent 150kW/255Nm output.

Standard equipment on the Kona Electric includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, keyless entry, and dual-zone climate control, as well as a full suite of advanced safety features such as rear cross-traffic alert, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and adaptive cruise control.
