Electric-car specialist Polestar has announced what it calls "the largest model offensive in its history" since it was spun off from Volvo close to a decade ago, due to launch from the end of this year.

Among the new models is a more practical wagon version of the Polestar 4, which is set to introduce a rear window in place of the current liftback's controversial rear vision run through a camera.

Australia is on the list for Polestar's new wagon, alongside a new-generation Polestar 2 sedan and first-ever Polestar 7 small-to-mid-size SUV due on sale overseas in 2027 and 2028, respectively.

Polestar says it is aiming for "low double-digit" percentage growth in vehicle deliveries in 2026, after reporting a record 60,119 sales in 2025, up 34 per cent on the prior year.

The electric-car brand has already revealed the large Polestar 5 sports sedan, a Porsche Taycan competitor due in Australia in the second half of 2026, priced from $171,000 plus on-road costs.

Due to follow is a "new variant" of the Polestar 4, which is promised to "[target] a wider customer base by offering more versatility," and is due in overseas showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2026 (October to December).

Teaser images and spy photos captured in China show the current Polestar 4 liftback's front end, combined with a wagon-like tail, including a taller roofline likely to improve rear-seat and boot space.

It also adds a rear window, something absent from the current Polestar 4 to enable its low, sleek roofline without excessively compromising headroom for rear passengers.

The Polestar 4 wagon may still offer a camera-based rear-view mirror, but there is now a physical opening in the rear of the vehicle, out of which drivers can see.

"Sweden is famous for its estate cars, and its SUVs are world-class. We are combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar," Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said in a media statement.

In early 2027, Polestar says it will launch a new generation of the Polestar 2, the company's all-time best seller, which has reported more than 190,000 deliveries since its 2020 overseas launch.

A teaser shared by the brand shows its signature headlight design, and similar proportions to the current model, which is a high-riding sedan similar in size to a Tesla Model 3.

Planned for 2028 is a "compact" SUV known as the Polestar 7, a new entry-level SUV which, based on the brand's description of the car as part of "the largest EV segment in Europe", is likely to bridge the gap in footprint between a BMW iX1 and iX3.

Polestar has previously confirmed it will be produced in a Volvo factory in Slovakia, and is expected to use a platform shared with its sister brands in the Geely group.

Absent from the new-model plans is the Polestar 6, a circa-$200,000 luxury roadster originally scheduled for production in 2026, but recently delayed indefinitely as the company focuses on more popular models.

It is unclear if the Polestar 6 is still planned to come to showrooms.

Polestar is hoping for sales growth beyond its 60,119 deliveries reported globally in 2025, as well as a record 2373 cars in Australia.

"Following our best sales year ever, we are now launching the largest model offensive in our history, with four premium EVs coming to market within three years," Lohscheller said in a media statement.

"We are targeting the heart of the EV market, where customer demand and profit pools are high."
