The GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV has gained slightly more electric-only driving range with a comprehensive specification update for 2026.
The plug-in hybrid with Australia's longest electric-only driving range is now capable of travelling even further before a recharge, following a comprehensive specification upgrade just 12 months after its initial launch.
The 2026 GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV gains the brand's upgraded Hi4 all-wheel-drive system, with new front and rear electric motors, and a different automatic transmission.
It is on sale now for $52,990 drive-away, $1000 less than its previous regular drive-away price, excluding promotional offers.
A 35.4kWh ternary lithium-ion battery – similar in size to defunct electric cars such as the Mazda MX-30 – has been retained for the 2026 model, instead of the lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry of the standard H6 PHEV.
However, powertrain changes see its claimed NEDC electric-only driving range increase by three kilometres to 183km, and its quoted combined driving range increase from approximately 1000km to 1183km.
Changes include more torque for its 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine – now 240Nm, up 10Nm – new 80kW front and 170kW rear electric motors (previously 130kW and 135kW, respectively), and a four-speed hybrid transmission instead of two-speed.
Combined system power remains at 321kW, while combined torque has fallen 120Nm, from 762Nm to 642Nm – yet its 0-100km/h acceleration claim is now 4.6 seconds, a 0.3sec improvement.
The H6 GT PHEV's interior follows the revisions applied to the standard H6 PHEV late last year, with a larger 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen running new 'Coffee OS' software, a revised centre console design, and a new steering wheel.
Its rotary gear selector has been replaced by a steering wheel-column-mounted gear selector, freeing up room for a relocated wireless smartphone charger with a faster 50-watt power output.
Other changes include GWM Connected Car telematics support, automatic high-beam assist, and two new selectable drive modes – Towing and 4WD – joining the existing Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Sand, and Mud.
The H6 GT PHEV also gains rear USB-A and USB-C illuminated charging points, a new key fob design, and a rear subwoofer, taking its total speaker count to nine but reducing underfloor storage capacity.
GWM Australia has not confirmed whether the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol non-hybrid version of the H6 GT will introduce similar changes.
The 2026 GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV is in showrooms now.
