Special D-Max surfaces online for sale nearly 10 years after its debut, and is priced less than a new, top-spec Isuzu ute.
Isuzu Australia’s D-Max Concept X – a special build to promote the rugged ute – is for sale and priced below a current top-spec X-Terrain.
Listed on my105.com, the Isuzu D-Max Concept X is listed for $65,000 and located in Welshpool, Western Australia.
According to the listing, the D-Max Concept X has travelled only 385km, but is not road registerable due to the extensive list of modifications.
First revealed in 2018 – and based on the second-generation model that was in production from 2011 to 2020 – the concept was conceived by EMG and Team D-Max to draw attention at the National 4x4 Outdoors Show, Fishing and Boating Expo at the time.
Changes to the standard D-Max include a widened body and a seven-inch suspension lift, as well as 38x15.5R20 mud-terrain tyres for a more aggressive appearance.
To fit the wider rubber, the front and rear guards, and front and rear bumpers, have been significantly widened – with the vehicle now measuring over two metres across – while sheet metal surrounds those components are also tweaked to suit.
There are also a new bonnet and tray, the latter fitted with spare wheels.
The D-Max Concept X has also been fitted with beefier six-piston front callipers and four-piston rear callipers, grabbing 390mm and 355mm rotors respectively.
Despite the cosmetic changes, however, the D-Max Concept X retains the same 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine as its doner car, which produced 130kW/430Nm.
Drive is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
For reference, the newer-generation D-Max features a 140kW/450Nm output from the same-sized engine, while the range currently tops out with the Blade priced at $80,900 before on-road costs.
The D-Max Concept X was revealed alongside an MU-X version, but the SUV version’s whereabouts are unknown.
