Hybrid versions of the 2026 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series are due to arrive in Australia from the middle of the year, producing 341kW and 790Nm as the most powerful LandCruiser ever sold.

The 'Performance Hybrid' will be priced from $156,060 for the GR Sport and $156,810 for the top-of-the-range Sahara ZX, both before on-road costs.

These RRPs represent a premium of $8900 over standard 3.3-litre turbo-diesel V6 versions, and are the most expensive LandCruisers ever sold in Australia.

Powering the LandCruiser 300 Series Hybrid is a 3.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 aided by a 36kW electric motor, a drivetrain shared with the related Lexus LX700h SUV and Toyota Tundra pick-up.

The hybrid system produces 114kW and 90Nm more than the 227kW/700Nm 3.3-litre turbo-diesel V6, and can operate on electric power, petrol power, or a mix of both.

Unlike a Toyota RAV4 hybrid, which uses two electric motors on the front axle, and a complex set of gears to vary between petrol and electric propulsion, the LandCruiser places one electric motor between the engine and gearbox.

It retains a 10-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, mechanical four-wheel drive and a low-range transfer case. Fuel consumption is rated at 10L/100km, compared to 8.9L/100km in the diesel.

A limited-slip rear differential is fitted to the Sahara ZX, while the more off-road-oriented GR Sport uses front and rear locking differentials and E-KDSS (Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System).

LandCruisers with the new hybrid powertrain also add electric power steering, while the turbo-diesel version retains hydraulic power steering. There is also a 200V/1500W rear auxiliary socket for powering small appliances.

Inside is the diesel's 12.3-inch digital intrument cluster, paired to a 14-speaker JBL sound system, with a dual rear seat entertainment system in the Sahara ZX grade.

Standard specifications match the diesel version, including a broad suite of advanced safety features.

These include autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist via braking, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and door exit warning.
