Australia's former top-selling new vehicle will receive price rises of about $2700 to $4000 on popular models – or up to $6260 on the cheapest version – when it reaches showrooms next month.
The cheapest version of the new-look 2026 Toyota HiLux will cost $6260 more than its predecessor when it arrives in showrooms next month, with a rationalised model line-up.
Toyota has slashed the number of model variants from 26 to 16 with the new HiLux, an evolutionary upgrade that drapes bolder styling and new tech over a version of its 10-year-old predecessor's chassis.
Top-selling, high-grade variants have risen in price by a few thousand dollars – including $460 for the Rogue and $2730 for the SR5 dual-cab 4x4 automatic pick-up – but it is entry-grade variants that have seen sharper price hikes.
The least expensive variant in the line-up is now $33,990 plus on-road costs – up $6020 from $27,730 – with the deletion of the 2.7-litre petrol and 2.4-litre diesel engines in the base-model WorkMate.
Compare 2.4-litre to 2.8-litre diesel engines in the same model grade, however, and the price gap narrows to $1020.
While the WorkMate has only accounted for 17 per cent of HiLux sales so far this year, the 2.7-litre petrol engine – which no longer meets emission regulations in Australia – represented a considerable 69 per cent of WorkMate deliveries, the other 31 per cent in the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel.
All models are now powered by a carry-over 2.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, producing 150kW and 500Nm with a six-speed automatic transmission, or 150kW/420Nm with a six-speed manual on select grades.
It is offered with a choice of rear-wheel drive or part-time four-wheel drive, with dual-cab automatic 4x4 models from the SR grade and up adding 48-volt 'mild-hybrid' technology to trim fuel use and assist the engine under acceleration.
Five model grades are offered – the familiar WorkMate, SR, SR5 and Rogue joined by the return of the Rugged X, an accessorised off-road special replacing the GR Sport variant, which has gone on hiatus.
The price increases are also partially offset by additional equipment across the range, including LED headlights and safety technology such as lane-centring assist and blind-spot monitoring on all variants.
Standard across the HiLux line-up is a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus satellite navigation – previously on the SR5 grade and up – and 7.0-inch or 12.3-inch instrument displays, depending on variant.
Toyota has improved the HiLux's connected services app – with internet-enabled navigation, and the ability to pre-condition the cabin remotely – but the free trial period for functions other than SOS emergency calls and remote vehicle diagnostics has been slashed from three years to one.
A leather-trimmed steering wheel, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, and a 360-degree camera are now standard on the SR, up $3280 to $4295.
SR5 grades gain heated seats, a heated steering wheel, off-road cameras and rear disc brakes, among other items.
A $2500 'Premium Interior Package' remains available on the SR5 which, when optioned on the 4x4 dual-cab automatic pick-up at $68,490 plus on-road costs, is on par with a Ford Ranger Wildtrak bi-turbo ($69,890) and Isuzu D-Max LS-U ($68,000).
The flagship Rogue and Rugged X are the same price, at $71,990 plus on-road costs, but the latter is $2320 cheaper than the GR Sport, as its off-road upgrades are not as extensive.
Both flagship versions – the road-oriented Rogue (up $460) with a sailplane and carpeted tub, and off-road-focused Rugged X with a bull bar – remove the wide-track footprint of the outgoing Rogue and GR Sport, though gain their rear disc brakes.
Due in the first half of 2026 is an electric HiLux BEV, which Toyota has confirmed will cost less than $100,000, but will cost more than the SR and SR5 grades on which it will be based.
Up to seven colours will be available, depending on variant: Glacier White, Frosted White, Stunning Silver, Eclipse Black and Feverish Red, plus the new Ash Slate grey and Sunglow yellow hues.
The 2026 Toyota HiLux formally goes on sale in Australia on December 9, 2025.
