Up to $7000 cut with facelift, power boost

Subaru has slashed up to $7000 from the cost of its Solterra electric SUV in Australia with the imminent arrival of an upgraded model.

The 2026 Subaru Solterra now starts from $63,990 before on-road costs – down $6000 – while the range-topping AWD Touring costs $69,990, down $7000 to be equivalent to the outgoing entry grade.

However, Subaru Australia is no longer offering the Solterra with five years of roadside assistance, which reverts to the same 12-month period as its petrol and hybrid vehicles, or five complimentary services.

Under the skin, the Solterra gains a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery supplied by CATL – up from 71.4kWh – for a WTLP driving range rating of up to 566 kilometres, an increase from 414km.

In addition, all grades have a new 252kW dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, up from 160kW, making the Solterra the most powerful production Subaru sold in Australia to date, above cars such as the WRX STI.

Design changes include revised front styling, new 18- and 20-inch alloy wheel designs, a restyled rear bumper, and a Subaru wordmark on its tailgate instead of a logo.

A larger 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, dual 15-watt wireless smartphone chargers, acoustic glass, a acoustic glass, 64-colour interior ambient lighting, and a driver's knee airbag are new features across the range for 2026.

The base Solterra AWD also gains the heated steering wheel previously limited to the AWD Touring, while the range-topping grade adds ventilated front seats and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.

A new $1500 option pack for the AWD Touring adds black/blue leather upholstery – replacing black synthetic leather – and a two-tone black roof.

Further changes across the Solterra line-up include a 1500-kilogram braked towing capacity, up from 750kg, and faster AC home charging speeds of up to 22 kilowatts, up from 11kW.

The 2026 Subaru Solterra electric SUV is on sale now in Australia, ahead of showroom arrivals at a later date.

It will soon be joined by a facelift for its Toyota bZ4X identical twin, which will include an elongated bZ4X Touring variant.

Subaru's version of the bZ4X Touring – the Trailseeker or e-Outback, depending on the market in which it is sold – has not been confirmed for Australia.
