The electric-only driving range for the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has been confirmed for Australia.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has announced the Model Year 2026 (MY26) Outlander PHEV will offer an electric-only driving range rating of 103 kilometres, based on the older NEDC test cycle, thanks to its larger 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

It compares to the 84km NEDC range quoted for the outgoing model – which had a smaller 20kWh battery – 81km for the BYD Sealion 6 Premium AWD, 100km for the GWM Haval H6 PHEV AWD, and 76km for the Mazda CX-60 P50e AWD.

On the newer WLTP lab-test standard, the latest version is rated with an 86-kilometre electric-only driving range, which is more reflective of real-world driving conditions.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has announced the 2026 Outlander PHEV will be offered in familiar ES, Aspire, Exceed and Exceed Tourer grades.

However, the top-of-the-range Outlander PHEV GSR, which adds black exterior styling over the Exceed Tourer, will go on hiatus in Australia.

While Mitsubishi could not comment on its plans for the Outlander PHEV beyond the MY26 launch lineup, the GSR could return at a later date – similar to how the outgoing GSR was launched around 18 months after lower-spec variants.

"We are launching with a similar range to when we introduced the current gen [Outlander] PHEV with back in 2022," a Mitsubishi Motors Australia spokesperson said about the MY26 line-up.

"We then look to add variants to support the core, as we move through the model lifecycle. This has traditionally included vehicles such as the Outlander Black Edition [petrol model] and the PHEV GSR.

"We will confirm plans with the updated PHEV in time."

New features for the PHEV ES will include a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, an eight-speaker Yamaha audio system, Mitsubishi Connected Services, a driver monitoring camera, a frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a 360-degree camera.

The Aspire will add a 'five-plus-two' seven-seat capacity – instead of the outgoing model's five seats – and features previously limited to the Exceed and Exceed Tourer, including a heated steering wheel, lane-keep assist and traffic jam assist.

Meanwhile, the Exceed and Exceed Tourer gain ventilated front seats, a digital rear-view mirror and aluminium pedal covers, with black or grey leather for the Exceed and 'brick brown' semi-aniline leather for the Exceed Tourer.

The Exceed Tourer also receives a 12-speaker Yamaha Ultimate audio system, replacing the nine Bose speakers fitted to the current model.

Full Australian details on the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, including pricing and specifications, will be confirmed closer to its launch date.
