An updated version of the Geely EX5 with a bigger battery seems poised to enter Australian showrooms, as revealed by local certification documents.

The original EX5 launched only in March 2025, fitted with a 60.22kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery that is rated for a 430km driving range on the WLTP standard in base Complete trim, decreasing to 410km for the top-spec Inspire.

However, documentation has surfaced for an EX5 equipped with a 68.39kWh battery, lining up with overseas version of the all-electric SUV revealed more than six months ago.

In its home market of China, range has been boosted to 610km on the less-stringent CLTC testing standard from 530km – or about a 13 per cent improvement.

This indicates a new driving range rating of around 486km for the Complete, and about 464km for the Inspire for Australian cars.

In China, the update also brought the 160kW electric motor, which is already standard on local cars, with outputs likely to carry over unchanged from before.

Aside from the larger battery, the certification documents look like they match specifications on the existing car, with 18-inch wheels fitted to the base car and 19-inch wheels on the top-spec car.

The Inspire also has a wider track, fitted with 235/50 tyres on 19x7.5 wheels compared to the 225/55s on 18x7 wheels of the Complete.

It is unclear if Geely Australia will move pricing up on the EX5 if the bigger battery version makes its way to local showrooms, but the current model starts at $40,990 before on-road costs – making it the most affordable all-electric mid-size SUV.

For that money, features include LED headlights, heated front seats, a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a full suite of active safety systems.

Buyers will need to shell out another $4000 for the Inspire, which also adds a powered tailgate, front parking sensors, ventilated and massaging front seats, and a 16-speaker sound system.

Since launching last March, Geely Australia has reported 4359 EX5 models as sold in VFACTS, making it one of the more popular choices in the EV SUV space.
