Buy and ID.4 or ID.5 and Volkswagen will gift, and install, a home charger valued at nearly $2000 to make the transition to an EV that much easier.

Volkswagen Australia will throw in a free home charger valued at $1899 to the first 500 buyers of the ID.4 or ID.5 electric cars.
The home electric vehicle (EV) charger has a peak output of 7kW, and includes installation by a certified electrician, and can cut the 0-100 per cent charging time of an ID.4 with a 2.3kW household socket from about 23 hours to around 12 hours.
Owners of the ID.4 and ID.5 also receive discounted charging at Ampol stations, and can also charge at more than 90 Volkswagen dealerships around the country for added peace of mind.
As a reminder, the ID.4 is available in base Pro form for now, priced at $59,990 before on-road costs, with the top-spec GTX coming at a later date.
It features a 210kW/545Nm single motor that drives the rear wheels, and its 77kWh battery is good for a claimed 544km of driving range.
The coupe-styled ID.5 flips the script, and will first be available in GTX form (from $72,990) before the Pro version comes later.
However, the ID.5 GTX boasts a larger 79kWh battery that is good for a 522km driving range, while its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive set-up punches out a combined 250kW.
Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles National Product Manager Arjun Nidigallu said the bonus home charger adds extra value to the already competitively-priced ID.4 and ID.5.
"We’ve recently talked about how hard we’re driving to achieve the best position for ID.4 and ID.5," Nidigallu said.
"The inclusion of a home charging solution for customers is yet another example that demonstrates Volkswagen’s ongoing commitment to making BEV ownership easy – with greater assurance and accessibility thanks to our partners Ampol and Volkswagen Group Australia’s On EV programme."
The ID.4 and ID.5 will compete in the all-electric mid-size SUV segment against a glut of China-sourced competitors such as the Geely EX5 (from $40,990), Kia EV5 (from $56,770), Tesla Model Y (from $58,900), Leapmotor C10 (from $45,888), Deepal S07 (from $53,990), and BYD Sealion 7 (from $54,990).
