The Chinese newcomer has arrived with a bigger warranty than most – but not all – and less fine print to worry about than others.

Jaecoo – a new car brand for Australia from Chinese auto giant Chery – will has launched in Australia with an eight-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, one of the longest on the market.

Most car makers in Australia offer a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty on new vehicles in Australia, although some three-year warranties do remain on the market.

Kia has offered a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty in Australia for many years, while MG recently upgraded its warranty from seven years and unlimited kilometres to 10 years, but limited the kilometre coverage to 250,000km.

A decade of warranty coverage from new is also offered by Mitsubishi and Nissan in Australia, with limits of 200,000km and 300,000km respectively for the two Japanese brands.

Both Mitsubishi and Nissan also have clear stipulations on their warranty coverage however, requiring dealership-only service records to ensure warranty coverage after the five-year mark.

While MG matches the decade-long coverage, it doesn't have the same dealership-only servicing stipulation.

Jaecoo's warranty offer also doesn't require buyers to service their vehicles exclusively through the car maker's dealership network.

The unlimited-kilometre limit on Jaecoo's warranty is also a standout element, going beyond the 200,000, 250,000 and 300,000 kilometres of coverage respectively offered by Mitsubishi, MG and Nissan.

The first model in Australia's Jaecoo range is the J7 medium-sized SUV (pictured above), which goes on sale with the choice of petrol and plug-in hybrid power on May 6, 2025.

The range of Jaecoo models is expected to expand in Australia, with the larger J8 SUV expected to be the next introduction.
