Defender gains a host of practical and stylish accessories

Since its inception, the Defender has been a beacon of off-road ability. The latest generation builds on this with added luxury to heighten the go-anywhere experience for owners. And now, an array of official accessories aims to take the Defender’s capability to the next level with the reassurance of buying direct.

There’s no extra hassle to receive the gear and accessories that will help you tackle any terrain or situation when leveraging the Defender’s wide breadth of capability.

Getting you back on course

Manufactured by renowned brand Warn, the Zeon Platinum 10-S winch is manufactured to be positioned at the front of the Defender. The winch centres on safe operation via the wireless remote control and remote-controlled clutch, keeping you in the driver’s seat, but securely away from the action.

The Warn product is a heavy-duty unit too. It has an overload device that allows for a pre-set maximum pull force of 4536kg (10,000lbs) and comes with 80’ of 3/8-inch Spydura synthetic rope.

Protection from the elements

With expeditions deep into the countryside, wildlife can become an issue. Not only does the optional bull bar enhance the off-road aesthetic of your Defender, but it also plays a key role in protecting the vehicle.

The bull bar mounts to the front of the Defender and reduces the potential damage caused by the impact of an errant kangaroo, for example. Essentially allowing both the vehicle and its passengers to continue to their destination.

Pumped up and ready to go

Another feature crucial to the off-road journey is an integrated air compressor. It’s a vital piece of hardware, especially for those wanting to traverse sand dunes. However, it not only facilitates the adjustment of tyre pressures, but it can also inflate bicycle tyres with Schrader valves, air beds and other paraphernalia like an inflatable waterproof awning.

It’s relatively inconspicuous, too, by being permanently integrated into the loadspace and painted in Eiger Grey. Yet, it doesn’t adversely impede cargo capacity.

Ease of use is paramount, which is aided by the simple dial and digital display. It includes three nozzle attachments, while the bright orange hue coating the extendable hose increases visibility and safety in low-light conditions.

The five-metre self-coiling hose reaches all four tyres and is concealed in a zipped, hard-wearing 600D nylon black bag brandishing the Land Rover logo. Stowing is made more practical by the carabiner and ‘D’ loop.

Adding style and substance to your Defender

However, it isn’t just about rugged wilderness, the Defender also carries a sense of polish few can match. Therefore, there’s now a range of accessories to enhance the Defender’s visual appeal while also being useful.

Not only does the Expedition Roof Rack Pack enrich the exterior look, but it also offers flexible roof-carrying solutions that can be removed when not in use. Yet, when they are, the low-line, lightweight and fully integrated design only adds to the Defender’s sleek silhouette.

Made from anodised aluminium and set in a cast alloy powder-coated black frame, the roof racks not only look the part, but they also allow the use of the sunroof and also it doesn’t inhibit the antenna’s reception.

Are they form over function? Not a chance. Wind noise is minimised due to the focus on aerodynamic performance and the T-track bars permit various items to be attached.  With All Terrain tyres fitted, the Defender's maximum dynamic roof load including the weight of the roof rack is 168kg.

Aiding access to the roof racks is an optional deployable ladder, which is an exclusive add-on for Defender. It’s a modern take on a traditional innovation, using a new two-stage deployment style to contain its size within a form factor aimed at reducing wind noise.

As with the roof racks, its construction is lightweight thanks to the use of aluminium. The steps are anodised and the sides are powder-coated black, while the frame is set in a high-quality, durable plastic finished in Anthracite.

Yet, the ladder remains robust with a maximum load capacity of 150kg. It’s fixed to the side of the body and roof for supreme user-friendliness and can be locked when in position for further peace of mind.

All the gear and all the right ideas

Keeping the handy, cool factor going are the exclusive side-mounted gear carriers.

The added external storage is perfect for all the mucky gear you don’t won’t infiltrating the cabin, with the enhanced benefits of being waterproof and lockable for safety. An interior net keeps items secure, and there’s also a removeable rubber stopper within each pod for stress-free cleaning and drainage.

Finished in Gloss Black with Land Rover badges as highlights, they’re both visually appealing and practical with a capacity of 24 litres and a maximum load of 17kg.

Finishing exterior touches

Mudflaps and a spare-wheel cover finish off the pragmatic external accessories. Not only do the mudflaps tie into the heritage and ethos of the Defender as a style statement, the larger, flexible design protects the paintwork from loose terra firma.

Streamlining the Defender’s rear-view optics is the spare-wheel cover. Proudly showcasing the Defender logo as the centrepiece, the cover also employs a moulded face with Gloss Black exterior. An elastic self-adjusting band aids fitment.

Defender accessories are more than just skin deep

Yet, it isn’t just the facade you can customise and protect. Given the lavish nature of the Defender’s cabin, you’ll want to safeguard it too.

In the main cabin you can opt for rubber mats to protect underfoot from the rigors of the outdoors. Defence against sand, mud, water or snow – basically, they’re up to the task with whatever you can throw at them.

The synthetic rubber mats are deep sided and follow the slope of the footwell for extra safeguarding. The second and third rows gain standard rubber matting.

Although they aren’t without a touch of flair, despite their hardwearing nature. They’re available in Ebony with a bright metal Land Rover branded ingot.

Overall, the new, curated range of official Land Rover accessories provides a tangible way for owners to embrace an active lifestyle with the Defender like never before.
