The Volvo EX60 electric medium SUV is due in Australia later this year, with a competitive price to entice buyers away from the new BMW iX3.

The 2027 Volvo EX60 mid-size electric SUV has opened for orders in Australia, priced from $86,990 plus on-road costs – with the potential for a more affordable version to arrive later.
The EX60 has grabbed headlines for a claimed driving range of up to 810km, but the P12 variant capable of such a distance will not be available at the launch of the new electric SUV in Australia later this year.
Instead, the electric Volvo will initially be sold in rear-wheel-drive P6 Ultra ($86,990 plus on-road costs) and all-wheel-drive P10 Ultra ($101,990 plus on-roads) guises, claiming 610km to 660km of driving range.
The P6 Ultra starts below a base, rear-wheel-drive Audi Q6 e-tron ($99,900), while the P10 Ultra undercuts the $109,900 BMW iX3 50 xDrive, though the German offering quotes an 805km range.
It is expected there will be bookends to the range next year, led by a cheaper version – which could be dubbed the Plus or Core to match other Volvo models' entry-level variants – which would likely cost less than $80,000.
The top-spec version is expected to be the P12 Performance, as detailed by Volvo when it revealed the EX60 last year, with the flagship 810km range.
The P12 will also offer all-wheel drive, but will bring a huge boost in both power and driving range compared to the lower grades. A starting price closer to the entry point to the EX90 range is likely, at around $120,000 before on-roads.
Also possible is a fifth variant, the Cross Country, with rugged styling and wheels for light off-roading duties, which – if the EX30 Cross Country is a guide – could command a premium of about $2000 over a P10 or P12 variant.
The EX60, like the large XC90, is produced in Sweden rather than China, where most of the brand’s cars are now built.
Standard features in the EX60 P6 include heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, heated rear outboard seats with a recline function, a power tailgate, 28-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos, and tri-zone climate control.
The P6 comes with grey Nordico synthetic leather-look upholstery, whereas the P10 upgrades to nappa leather. Both offer light brown Cardamom or creamy Dawn trim as no-cost options.
Standard in both grades is an electrochromatic glass sunroof that can switch from clear to opaque. 21-inch alloy wheels are also the only choice.
Onyx Black will be the standard free paint colour, with seven other choices available for no additional cost.
The first batch of EX60s on sale in Europe are not equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but by the time cars arrive in Australia, these features will be added via an over-the-air update.
The biggest changes, however, are underneath the skin, as the EX60 rides new underpinnings with 800-volt electrics for faster charging and improved energy efficiency.
The P6 Ultra is powered by a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, producing 275kW/480Nm, fed by an 80kWh battery delivering a claimed driving range of 610km.
The P10 steps up to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, developing 375kW/710Nm. It uses a 91kWh battery for a claimed driving range of 660km.
When it arrives, though, the P12 will make 500kW/790Nm, and its 112kWh battery will provide 810km of claimed range – giving it one of the longest EV driving range claims in Australia.
It is unclear which configuration the EX60 Cross Country will use.
Compared to the regular EX30, the Cross Country features a 19mm raised ride height, larger-diameter tyres, and the option of an 18-inch wheel and all-terrain tyre package.
The suspension has also been retuned to match the increased ride height, providing a softer feel over rougher terrain, while styling differences include front and rear skid plates, wheel-arch extensions, and a dark finish for the front fascia and tailgate.
At a media preview for the EX60 in Spain earlier this month, the Cross Country was shown on 21-inch wheels, and equipped with combination fabric and synthetic leather-look upholstery
As with the P10, the Cross Country on display featured individual suspension settings within the infotainment system, indicating it shares the regular model's active suspension with continuously-controlled dampers.
The 2027 Volvo EX60 is on sale now, with deliveries of the P6 and P10 expected in the final quarter of this year.
