Volvo has updated its flagship petrol SUV with new styling and a updated interior, alongside price rises and fewer models to choose from.

The updated 2026 Volvo XC90 seven-seat luxury SUV has opened for orders in Australia with price rises of up to $5050, and a trimmed model range that sees the mid-grade petrol variant deleted.
On sale for a decade – and counting – the second-generation Volvo XC90 has been given a new lease on life with revised exterior styling, and upgraded interior including a larger touchscreen.
Prices have risen by $5050 for the entry-level Ultra B5 Bright petrol, and $2600 for the Ultra T8 Plug-in Hybrid, with the mid-spec Ultra B6 Bright ($107,940) deleted.
Exterior changes include a fresh front end with slimmer headlights, new bumpers and a diagonal-striped grille pattern, updated alloy wheels, and new LED tail-light internals.
Inside, the 9.0-inch touchscreen has been swapped for a new 11.2-inch unit with a higher display resolution, and Volvo's latest Android Automotive-based software that is also rolling out to many outgoing XC90s.
The dashboard has been tweaked with a "more horizontal shape", new vertical air vents, and decorative inserts made from recycled materials.
Ergonomic tweaks include more centre-console storage, an additional cupholder between the two existing ones, and a repositioned wireless phone charger now behind the central tunnel.
Changes under the skin include updated suspension that now allows "each individual damper ... to adapt mechanically to current road conditions to optimise both comfort and stability".
Powering the Ultra B5 is a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine producing 183kW and 350Nm, sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
It is aided by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system which can trim fuel use by shutting the engine off when cruising, or add 10kW/40Nm for brief periods under heavy acceleration.
The plug-in hybrid adds a supercharger to the 2.0-litre engine to produce 233kW and 400Nm, augmented by a 107kW/309Nm electric motor and 18.8kWh battery pack for 340kW combined.
It is rated for up to 77km of electric driving range in NEDC lab testing, and a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.3 seconds.
The 2026 Volvo XC90 is on sale now.
