The 2026 BYD Atto 2 small SUV has gone on sale in the UK, giving Australian buyers their strongest hint yet at how the model could be positioned in Australia.

While UK pricing doesn’t directly correlate to pricing in Australia, the positioning relative to Australia’s range in BYD showrooms provides a strong hint of an RRP in the low-$30,000 bracket for the least expensive variant.

The UK will receive two variants of the Atto 2, priced from £30,850 for the entry-level Boost, or £34,950 for the upscale Atto 2 Comfort.

These prices convert directly to around $AU50,520 and $AU72,800, respectively, a long way off where similar rivals like the MG S5 EV Excite 49 (from $40,990 drive-away) and Chery E5 Urban (from $36,990 plus on-road costs) sit.

Instead, looking at the larger Atto 3 small-to-mid-size SUV, priced from £37,705 in the UK ($AU78,530), the 22.2 per cent cheaper entry price for the Atto 2 suggests Australian pricing could kick off as low as $31,000 before on-road costs.

With the small BYD Dolphin hatch already starting from $29,990 in Australia, BYD is unlikely to tread too closely to the existing model range, but a price in the low-to-mid-$30,000 region looks increasingly likely.

UK pricing has the entry-level Atto 2 priced below the top-spec Dolphin. If priced the same away in Australia, the Atto 2 would arrive at an estimated $35,990 before on-road costs.

The entry-level Atto 2 Boost is equipped with a 51.1kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery rated to cover 344km between charges in European WLTP lab testing.

That compares to the entry-level Dolphin’s 44.9kWh battery, but comparable 340km WLTP range.

The two models differ in terms of motor outputs, with the Atto 2 Boost powered by a 130kW/290Nm motor driving the front wheels, versus a 70kW/180Nm motor in the Dolphin Essential.

The more expensive Atto 2 Comfort steps up to a 64.8kWh battery and 420km range rating with a more powerful 150kW/310Nm motor.

Those motor outputs match the Dolphin Premium and $44,990 Atto 3 Premium, the latter also aligned on driving range from a slightly smaller 60.5kWh battery.

The Atto 2 in the UK comes equipped with wireless phone charging, an eight-speaker audio system, a 12.8-inch rotating centre touchscreen, faux-leather interior trim, LED head and tail lights, a panoramic glass roof, and a full suite of advanced driver assist (ADAS) features.

The SUV will slot into Australia’s small SUV class at 4310mm long, 1830mm wide and 1675mm tall, on a 2620mm wheelbase, based on overseas specifications – 145mm shorter nose to tail, 45mm narrower, and 60mm lower than the Atto 3, on a 100mm shorter wheelbase.

The 2026 BYD Atto 2 is confirmed for an Australian launch and expected to join the local line-up towards the end of 2025.

Full pricing and specifications for Australia will be confirmed closer to its arrival.
