The fault could cause the vehicle to stall while driving and prevent the engine from restarting, according to the recall notice.
American Special Vehicles, trading as Ram Trucks Australia, has recalled 423 examples of the 2017-2019 Ram 1500 diesel, citing a potential fault with its crankshaft position sensor.
The affected vehicles are stamped 2017 to 2019 models, but may have been sold at a later date.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a software issue with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the signal from the crankshaft position sensor may fail.
"As a result, the vehicle may experience a loss of motive power whilst driving and an inability to restart the engine."
A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 423 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.
American Special Vehicles, trading as Ram Trucks Australia, advises owners of affected vehicles will be contacted to request they visit their dealer to have their vehicle inspected and "if necessary reprogram the Powertrain Control Module, free of charge".
Owners can contact Ram Trucks Australia by calling 1300 681 655 or by visiting their closest dealership.
