Upstart Chinese brand XPeng might be new to the Australian market, but it has plans to expand its portfolio from one to five cars in the next 18 months.

Launching last year with the G6 mid-size SUV, a revised version of the same car was shown in March and is due to arrive in Australia later this year.

Changes include a new rear end thanks to a full-width tail-light array, ducktail spoiler, and revised bumper.

New wheels options are also available and the side mirrors flash blue to signal when the G6 is operating in semi-autonomous mode.

However, the changes inside the G6 are likely most tangible to customers, with the 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen now enlarged to 15.6 inches, which sits alongside the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and refreshed dashboard.

A change in price is yet to be confirmed, but the G6 is currently available in Standard Range and Long Range forms for $54,800 before on-road costs and $59,800 respectively.

Interestingly, the battery capacity for the base car has reportedly been boosted from 66kWh to 68.5kWh, granting a 45km increase to its driving range in CLTC testing, while the top-spec version drops from 87.5kWh to 80.8kWh, translating to a 25km cut in range.

The G9 large SUV, which was expected to already be available, was also delayed to only bring in the updated version that was revealed alongside the new G6.

Exact details on the G9 are still to be confirmed for Australia, but overseas the updated large SUV now also boasts the blue-illuminated side mirrors like the smaller G6.

In international markets, the G9 can be had in three forms – with lab-tested driving range ratings between 625-725km.

Sized similarly to a Toyota Kluger, but with seating only for five, the G9 boasts a boot space of up to 1795 litres with the rear seats folded.

Local pricing for the G9 is still unconfirmed, but expect it to sit upmarket of the G6.

Finally, before the end of the year, the X9 luxury people mover will also arrive, billed as the brand’s technological flagship – and likely most expensive local model.

Overseas, the updated X9 will launch at the same price as last year’s model, but it is expected to start at around $90,000 in Australia.

As a premium all-electric people mover, the X9 will compete against the LDV Mifa 9, Zeekr 009, and Volkswagen ID. Buzz, but is set to undercut the competition.

Boasting features like adaptive and predictive air suspension that can preload each corner for incoming bumps, a maximum driving range of 740km, premium interior appointments, and optional second-row captain’s chairs, the X9 is tasked with pushing XPeng even further upmarket.

As part of the model’s international debut in Hong Kong, XPeng revealed it benchmarked the against the Toyota Alphard for ride comfort, in-cabin noise, and smoothness, with the X9 coming out on top in the brand’s testing.

In 2026, XPeng plans to bring to Australia another passenger car, the P7+ large sedan to fill the void left by the discontinuation of the Tesla Model S.

Measuring 5056mm long, 1937mm wide, 1512mm tall and with a 3000mm wheelbase, the executive sedan is underpinned by a single rear-drive electric motor outputting as much as 230kW/450Nm.

With a rated driving range up to 710km, and a boot space up to 2221L, the P7+ could be positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, BMW i5, and Audi A6 e-tron.

Finally, another new model is destined for Australian shores next year, though XPeng is yet to reveal exactly what that is.

What we do know is that it will not be a cut-price model from its Mona sub-brand, but possibly a new small SUV to compete directly with the BYD Atto 3 and Kia EV3 to give XPeng broader market coverage.
