A ramp-up in deliveries of the updated Model Y SUV has pushed the company to a 12-month sales high – but a slump in Model 3 demand kept its performance in the red last month.

The revival of Tesla sales in Australia has continued with the company's strongest month in a year – at more than 4500 cars delivered – as hand-overs of the updated Model Y continue to ramp up.

However, last month's sales result was still 2 per cent lower than June 2024 – and Tesla is down 38.8 per cent so far this year – amid a 65 per cent slump in Model 3 sedan deliveries.

Data published by the Electric Vehicle Council reports 4589 new Tesla vehicles as delivered in June 2025 – down on 4683 in June 2024, but up on just 500 in April 2025, and 3897 in May 2025.

Model Y SUV deliveries were up 19 last month, at 3457 vehicles – up from 2906 in June 2024 – as deliveries of the updated model launched in May this year ramp up.

It is the Model 3 sedan letting the side down, its June result of 1132 deliveries representing its best in 2025, but they were still down 36.3 per cent on the same month the year prior.

Still, the electric-car giant is well-positioned to place among Australia's Top 10 best-selling new-car brands last month, once comprehensive data is published in the coming hours.

If the resurgence in Tesla deliveries continues, the company will draw nearer to its all-time record of 7018 vehicles in June 2023.

It remains to be seen how long the surge in Model Y demand lasts, once the new model settles into showrooms, and the initial rush of buyers has taken delivery.

Since the start of the year, Tesla deliveries stand at 14,146 – down 38.8 per cent on the same period last year – across 10,431 Model Ys and 3715 Model 3s.

Tesla Australia has previously spoken of "really strong" interest in its new SUV.

"When we launched orders back in January, we had an enormous response to the launch edition," Tesla Australia country director Thom Drew told Drive in early April.

"We've only just started test drives in the last couple of weeks. The boat's been slowly making its way around the country. And now we're seeing that kind of second wave come through ... [we’re] seeing some really strong interest."
