Five-seat GXL added to boost cargo space

The first revision to the 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado has arrived in Australia, with a new variant added to broaden the off-roader’s appeal.

Set to become the top-selling model in the range, the five-seat GXL model joins five-seat GX and Altitude models, proving an alternative to the seven-seat GXL already on sale.

Pricing remains unchanged from launch pricing announced last year on existing variants, with the Prado GX starting from $72,500 before on-road costs, rising to $99,990 for the range-topping Prado Kakadu.

Pricing for the GXL grade starts from $78,990 for the five-seat version, with the seven-seat model priced $1000 higher.

Without the third row of seats, cargo capacity in the GXL grows to 954 litres with the second row in place, compared to 906L for seven-seat versions, with the third row stowed.

With unchanged pricing, the Prado maintains its premium over key rivals, with the Ford Everest spanning $59,240 to $81,200 plus on-road costs for 4x4 models, the Isuzu MU-X priced at $54,400 to $75,100 plus on-road costs, with a discounted $73,990 drive-away deal on the flagship model.

The remaining variants in the range start from $87,400 for the VX, $92,700 for the off-road oriented Altitude.

Mechanical specifications continue unchanged with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine producing 150kW and 500Nm, backed by the support of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and engine start-stop capability.

Keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, and a full suite of driver-assist systems including adaptive cruise control, driver monitoring camera, lane keep and lane centring assist, road sign recognition, safe exit assist, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring are also fitted across the range.

GX models are equipped with cloth seats, the GXL moves to synthetic leather, while VX and above come with leather-accented seating.

The Altitude adds all-terrain tyres (on 18-inch wheels), a locking rear differential, sunroof, heated steering wheel, head-up display, digital rear-view mirror, and anti-roll bar disconnect (replacing adaptive suspension).
