The first plug-less hybrid offering in MG's mid-size SUV lineup, the 2025 MG HS Hybrid+, is set to hit the market in September with a two-variant range.
The closed-loop or series-hybrid driveline pairs a 105kW 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 1.83kWh battery and 146kW electric motor, providing a combined output of 165kW and 340Nm through the front wheels.
This is more than the combined 160kW output of a Toyota RAV4 hybrid (131kW 2.5-litre petrol engine and 88kW electric motor), although the Toyota has a more efficient combined fuel consumption rating of 4.7L/100km, compared to the MG's 5.2L/100km.
Two variants will be offered, the MG HS Hybrid+ Excite priced from $42,990 drive away and the MG HS Hybrid+ Essence priced from $46,990 drive away. Both trim grades use identical mechanical underpinnings, including the same size 19-inch wheels with 225/55 tyres, although the Essense tips the scales at 30kg heavier due to extra equipment.
This undercuts the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid in GX ($42,260 plus on-road costs) and GXL ($45,810 plus on-road costs), but is marginally more expensive than the GWM Haval H6 Hybrid Lux ($42,490 drive away) and Ultra ($45,990 drive away), which also offers more power (179kW combined).
Equipment levels match the petrol-powered MG HS Excite and Essence models, with the Hybrid+ variants asking a $6000 premium over the recommended retail price of the petrol models ($36,900 drive away and $40,990 drive away respectively). This includes a full array of driver assistance and safety equipment across both model grades.
The 2025 MG HS Hybrid+ will arrive in showrooms in September this year.
