Skoda has confirmed its city-sized Epiq SUV – tehe smallest vehicle in the Czech car maker’s battery-electric SUV range, measuring 4.1 metres in length – is due to come to Australia in 2027.
The Epiq is based on the same ‘MEB Entry’ platform underpinning the related Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID.2, which use a 166kW electric motor to power the front wheels and are set to quote a 0-100km/h acceleration time of less than seven seconds.
It’s claimed the Epiq will also offer a driving range in excess of 400km.
“The compact Epiq will come to our market, probably in 2027, which will sit in the small SUV segment underneath the medium Elroq,” said Skoda Australia’s Head of Marketing and Product, Kieran Merrigan, at the launch of the Elroq this week.
“What you can see is that we're building an electric vehicle range from small, medium, large, and upper large. We will have the whole range of SUVs covered by our battery-electric range.”
Local pricing and specifications for the Skoda Epiq are not yet confirmed.
The concept revealed overseas in early 2024 showed a large infotainment touchscreen with air-conditioning controls embedded within it, combined with a touch-sensitive bar below – as seen on the just-launched larger Skoda Elroq SUV – plus a small instrument display ahead of the driver.
A wireless phone charger, smartphone digital key function and underfloor storage in the boot are also expected to feature, if the concept is a guide.
It is estimated to be priced from about €25,000 ($AU42,000) in Europe, and go up against the likes of the MG 4, GWM Ora and BYD Dolphin at the more affordable end of the electric-car market.
Skoda launched its first electric car in the form of the Enyaq Coupe late last year, with the Elroq following in August this year, and the Enyaq SUV set to arrive in September.
Elroq pricing starts from $54,990, while the larger Enyaq’s range opens at $69,990, both before on-road costs.
The Skoda Vision 7S, revealed in 2022, showcased Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, which can be found on the freshly-launched Elroq – the first production car to receive it.
