After axing the V8-powered TRX, Ram has reversed its decision and brought the TRX back to life with an even more powerful supercharged V8.
The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX has returned with supercharged V8 power and is being billed as the “fastest and most powerful production gas pick-up truck in the world”, and it is in with a chance to come to Australia.
Following the relaunch of the 5.7-litre V8 in regular Ram 1500 models in North America, the revived TRX offers 579kW and 922Nm from its 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine.
Those outputs place the new TRX 43kW and 54Nm ahead of the 5.2-litre supercharged V8 Ford F-150 Raptor R, according to figures released by Ram.
Ram claims the new TRX can sprint from 0-60 miles per hour (0-97km/h) in 3.5 seconds.
As before, the Ram TRX features an eight-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive with the TRX-specific suspension and steering carried over from the earlier TRX model.
Despite the shared development, Ram’s parent company, Stellantis, touts the 2027 TRX as the first new model from the company’s SRT division, which will manage development of high-performance models from Ram, Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler.
The 2027 TRX comes with raised suspension and Bilstein Black Hawk e2 active performance dampers, forged aluminium upper and lower front control arms, 35-inch tyres on beadlock-capable wheels, a Dana 60 rear axle with electronic diff lock, and five-link coil-sprung rear suspension.
Ram quotes 284mm of ground clearance, and front and rear axle travel of 330mm and 355mm, respectively.
Ram Active Terrain Dynamics suspension management adjusts traction and stability control settings in conjunction with the adaptive dampers, and can detect when wheels become airborne and prepare individual dampers for touchdown.
Other TRX changes include a flow-through grille design with red R-A-M lettering and SRT badge, a steel front bumper and functional skid plate, red recovery points front and rear, a functional bonnet scoop with integrated marker lights, satin black tail light housings, a steel rear bumper, gloss black dual exhaust tips, and an SRT badge on the tailgate.
The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX also comes with a 14.5-inch infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, dual wireless phone chargers, heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio, and hands-free active driving assist with highway driving capability.
The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX is set to go on sale in the United States in the second half of 2026, with a price of $US99,995 ($AU149,740).
The Ram 1500 TRX was last sold in Australia in 2024 with a list price of $AU249,950 before on-road costs, offering 523kW and 882Nm at the time, with a 4.5-second 0-100km/h claim.
When asked about the possibility of reintroducing the Ram TRX locally, Jeff Barber, General Manager of Ram Trucks Australia, said: "We are super-excited about the new Ram SRT TRX.
"The first-generation Ram TRX was a popular addition to our line-up when it was previously available," Barber said.
"While we have nothing to announce today, we are happy to say ‘watch this space’. Although the new Ram SRT TRX is not yet confirmed for our market, it is under serious consideration."
If the revived Ram TRX were to appeal Down Under, the local conversion process and the engineering work that precedes it would likely see the new model appeal locally sometime in 2027.
