Money makers: The three most expensive cars you can buy right now on Drive have all appreciated in value

Savvy new car buyers in Australia know that not every car is an investment opportunity, but the three most expensive listings on Drive Marketplace right now show the investment potential of the right car.

While the two most expensive classifieds make sense as recent ultra-exotic, high-performance supercars, the third-highest listing might be a surprise for all but the most die-hard petrolheads.

Granted, asking price and selling price can be two different things, but based on the former, the three most expensive listings on Drive Marketplace have gone up in value.

By far the biggest money earner on the list is this 1995 Porsche 911 Turbo, currently listed for $899,990, or a casual $598,770 more than its original 1995 list price.

In 1995 the Porsche 911 Turbo offered almost unfathomable performance, with a twin-turbo 3.6-litre flat-six engine producing 300kW and 540Nm, giving it the potential to sprint to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Priced from $301,220 before options and on-road costs when new, the 911 Turbo had performance to rival Ferrari and Lamborghini V12s of the era.

Adjusted for inflation, that’s around $429,300 in today's money, which actually makes 2025’s $482,500 911 Turbo pricing look decent when you remember that in 1995 there was no Luxury Car Tax, although sales tax at that time applied at a rate of 22 per cent.

If you missed your opportunity to buy an SF90 Stradale brand new, and don't quite want to extend to the race-ready SF90 XX, this could be the car for you.

A cool 1.3 million dollars gets you this particular example, compared to its 2023 starting price of $846,888 before on-road costs, resulting in a $479,112 difference in just over two years.

Of course, the car shown here isn’t exactly standard – then again, no Ferrari ever really is. The desirable Assetto Fiorano package, which shaves off around 30kg with a number of carbon-fibre body parts, carbon wheels, and a titanium exhaust.

With the combined output of the 3.9-litre V8 and electric motor providing 735kW of power, the SF90 Stradale can dash from 0-100km/h in claimed 2.5 seconds, but if you’re more interested in its eco-credentials, the plug-in hybrid system is rated to cover up to 26km of emissions-free driving.

If the attention-grabbing Lamborghini Aventador just isn’t commanding enough, try this unmissable 2019 Aventador SVJ. It takes the title of most expensive car listed on Drive Marketplace.

It’s already had a price reduction, down from the $1,400,000 it was originally listed for, to just $1,388,000 now – or around $305,714 more than its original $1,082,286 list price in 2019.

The phenomenal naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V8 produces 566kW and 720Nm, punching the Aventador from 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds.

More than just performance though, the arresting design and truly hair-raising aural appeal of the V12 engine, exiting through an SVJ-specific titanium exhaust, make this Italian supercar a showstopper wherever it goes.
