The 2025 BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 has been unveiled – and confirmed for Australia – to mark the 46th birthday of BMW race car driver Valentino Rossi.

Limited to four examples in Australia out of a global production run of 92 vehicles – split between distinct 'Sport' and 'Style' variants, with Australia receiving two of each – the Edition VR46 costs $346,900 before on-road costs, $92,000 more than a BMW M4 CS and $157,000 more than an M4 Competition xDrive.

Customer deliveries of the M4 CS Edition VR46 will commence between July and September 2025 in Australia.

All 92 customers of the limited-edition model will receive "a once-in-a-lifetime experience" to meet Rossi at his home at the VR46 Motor Ranch in Tavullia, Italy, along with a BMW M Driving Experience at the Misano race circuit in Italy.

The two-day experience in Italy will include "a barbeque and a chance to talk shop with Valentino Rossi himself", while the M Driving Experience will include "the latest BMW M models".

BMW said Rossi was involved in the design process of the two variants, which include his '46' race number on the carbon-fibre-reinforced doors and the roof, along with his signature on the roof and exclusive BMW Individual paint finishes.

The Sport variant is finished in Marina Bay Blue metallic with its '46' emblem in the darker Tanzanite Blue metallic, while the Style variant is painted in matte Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic with its '46' in Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic.

Both versions include a bright yellow finish for its kidney grille outline and one of the V spokes of the alloy wheels – which indicate the location of the tyre valve in BMW's race cars – while the brake calipers and accent strip over the door frames are painted yellow for the Sport variant.

Inside, the Edition VR46 adds a black and night blue colour combination with a contrasting yellow Alcantara shoulder area section, along with a yellow VR46 logo for its head restraints and door sill trims.

Yellow contrast stitching and a yellow centre marker have been added to its M Alcantara steering wheel, while each Sport and Style example has a unique '1/46' badge.

"There is no other brand that has motorsport so deeply rooted in its DNA as BMW M," Rossi said.

"I am proud to be a BMW M works driver, and to share this passion. The fact that there is now a special VR46 edition, in which I was involved from the very beginning of the design process, makes me proud. When I see the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 out on the road or on the race track later, it will be very cool."

Following his 26-season career in motorcycle racing between 1996 and 2021, Valentino Rossi has been a driver for the BMW M works team since the start of the 2023 season, racing the BMW M4 GT3, where he finished runner-up at the Bathurst 12 Hour in Australia earlier this month.
