2026 Chery Tiggo 7 price and specs: Power drop, fewer airbags, same price with facelift

The facelifted 2026 Chery Tiggo 7 family SUV has launched in Australia, with the non-hybrid petrol model mirroring the design changes applied to its Super Hybrid sibling.

At 108kW and 210Nm, the 1.5-litre turbo is down 29kW and 75Nm compared to the outgoing model's 137kW/275Nm 1.6-litre turbo.

It carries a combined fuel consumption rating of 6.9L/100km, and CO2 emissions of 158g/km – reductions of 0.1L/100km and 5g/km.

The new turbo-petrol engine – also fitted to the Tiggo 4 and C5 in Australia, and the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 plug-in hybrids with electric assistance – can be fuelled with 91-octane regular unleaded, while the Tiggo 7 Pro's 1.6-litre turbo needed 95-octane premium fuel.

Compared to the Tiggo 7 Pro, all Tiggo 7 grades gain projector-type LED headlights instead of reflector-type, front sequential indicators, hill descent control, and multi-link independent rear suspension replacing a less complex torsion-beam design.

However, Chery has removed features over the model it replaces, including a driver's knee airbag, built-in satellite navigation, a full-size steel spare wheel (instead fitting a space-saver), chrome exterior trim, and the eight-speaker Sony stereo (instead offering six unbranded speakers).

It is likely the removal of the driver's knee airbag would prevent the Tiggo 7 Pro's 2023-rated five-star ANCAP safety score from being carried over to the Tiggo 7 without any changes to its adult occupant protection score of 88 per cent.

Drive has contacted ANCAP for comment, while a Chery Australia spokesperson did not elaborate on why it was deleted for the new model, only confirming it is no longer fitted.

A driver's knee airbag remains fitted to the 2026 Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid, the plug-in hybrid version of the Tiggo 7 available from $39,990 drive-away – $10,000 more than its petrol-only equivalent.

The Urban misses out on the Tiggo 7 Pro SE's front parking sensors – now limited to the Ultimate – artificial leather upholstery and power driver's seat adjustment, but receives second-row cabin lighting.

Meanwhile, Ultimate is no longer fitted with the Tiggo 7 Pro SE+'s frameless rear-view mirror, two-tone black roof option, air purification system and 12-volt power socket in the boot.

New features exclusive to the Ultimate include an electronic child safety lock, illuminated front scuff plates, and side mirror puddle lamps.

Other changes include a revised front and rear design with "slender" headlights, new tail-lights, different 18-inch alloy wheels and new steering wheel buttons, while it remains limited to a white, silver, grey or black exterior.

The non-hybrid petrol 2026 Chery Tiggo 7 is in showrooms now, joining the plug-in hybrid Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid launched in July.
