  • 529km driving range rating
  • Priced from $54,990 before on-road costs

Skoda's new most affordable electric car in Australia is a $54,990 BYD Atto 3 competitor – the 2025 Skoda Elroq – due in showrooms in August or September 2025.

At 4488mm long, the Elroq is similar in size to the Atto 3 or petrol-powered Skoda Karoq, but shares its floorpan – and therefore interior space – with the much larger Tesla Model Y-sized Enyaq electric SUV.

Priced from $54,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Select model, Skoda's new Elroq is $15,000 cheaper than the least expensive Enyaq ($69,990), and undercuts a Tesla Model Y RWD ($58,900).

It is $10,000 dearer than a top-of-the-range BYD Atto 3 ($44,990) – with less equipment – but the Skoda is more powerful, and is rated with a much longer range (529km vs 420km).

The Elroq will also face off against the Kia EV3 Air Long Range ($53,315) and Hyundai Kona Electric Standard Range ($54,000), which are smaller and generally not as well equipped at this price.

A top-of-the-range Elroq 130 Edition will be available at launch – referencing 130 years since Skoda's predecessor firm, Laurin & Klement, was founded as a bicycle maker – priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs.

It was previously thought the 130 Edition could start from less than $60,000, but Skoda has clarified the previous estimate given was for the Select grade.

All initial Elroq variants will be powered by a single 210kW/545Nm electric motor on the rear axle, connected to a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery with a usable capacity of 77kWh (or 82kWh gross).

Skoda quotes a 529km driving range rating for mixed conditions under the WLTP lab-test protocol, down on the "up to" 581km quoted by European cars, as Australian examples have more equipment so are heavier, and sit on bigger wheels.

DC fast charging at a power level of up to 175kW allows for a 10 to 80 per cent fill-up in a claimed 28 minutes, while Skoda claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.6 seconds.

Standard features in the Elroq 85 Select include 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a 13-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, and heated front seats.

The 130 Edition adds 21-inch wheels, matrix LED lights, a head-up display, tri-zone climate control, power-adjustable white and black front seats, orange seatbelts, a 360-degree camera, premium audio system, power tailgate, and more.

It aligns with a top-of-the-range Kia EV3 GT-Line ($63,950 plus on-roads, 563km range), which lacks the Skoda's 360-degree camera and tri-zone climate but offers ventilated seats, a sunroof, and more.

A broader spread of model variants is expected at a later date; there is no end date set on the availability of the 130 Edition.

The Elroq is closely related to the Enyaq, with the same 'middle section' of its body – a common wheelbase, doors, bonnet and key panels – but with different bumpers, added wheel-arch flares, and a shorter rear overhang for a smaller footprint overall.

The 2025 Skoda Elroq is due in Australian showrooms in August or September this year, pending any delays.
