Mercedes-Benz Australia has introduced the GLA250e with EQ Hybrid Technology to the local line-up as the brand continues its push towards electrification.

Priced from $78,000 plus on-road costs, the GLA250e slots in just below the equivalent non-hybrid GLA250, from $80,500 plus on-road costs.

It is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 120kW and 270Nm, paired with a 75kW/300Nm electric motor for combined outputs of 160kW and 450Nm.

The front-wheel drive GLA250e is claimed to cover the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.6 seconds, putting it slightly ahead of the 165kW/350Nm all-wheel drive GLA250 4Matic.

The GLE250e’s 11.5kWh lithium-ion battery is capable of charging at a low 3.7kW rate, with faster 11kW AC charging an $800 optional extra in Australia.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, ‘Progressive line’ exterior styling (the non-AMG pack), a panoramic sunroof, faux-leather seats, front seat heating and memory, keyless entry and start, interior ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, and heat-insulating glass with rear privacy tint.

Driver assist features include adaptive cruise control with active lane-keep assist, semi-automated parking assist, and blind spot monitoring with safe exit warning.

Metallic paint is included as standard on the GLA250e.

Optional equipment includes the AMG Line Package, which adds a nappa leather sports steering wheel, AMG floor mats, lowered ‘comfort’ suspension (passive, not adaptive), sports brake system, and galvanised steering wheel gearshift paddles.

With the AMG Line added, buyers can then also option the Plus Package, which adds a driver’s head-up display, Burmester audio upgrade, Multibeam LED headlights, illuminated sill plates, augmented reality navigation, and upgraded driver assistance package.

The AMG Line Package is priced at $2500. Adding the Plus Package costs a further $3847.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA250e is on sale now.
