GWM has expanded its ute range with a new entry-level Cannon Premium – using a smaller engine, and available as a single-cab chassis – but some other models have risen in price.
The 2025 GWM Cannon ute line-up has expanded with the return of an entry-level grade, the smaller 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, and cab-chassis variants.
But prices of existing Cannon variants – introduced earlier this year, when it was known as the GWM Ute – have climbed by $1000.
The new Cannon Premium entry grade is available in single cab-chassis 4x2 (rear-wheel drive) and dual-cab 4x4 pick-up configurations, priced from $35,490 and $39,490 drive-away respectively.
It represents the first time the single-cab has been offered locally, as the Cannon and its GWM Ute predecessor has always been a dual-cab chassis and pick-up only offering.
Both are powered by the 120kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder offered in the pre-facelift model, matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission, in place of the 135kW/480Nm 2.4-litre turbo-diesel and nine-speed auto on higher grades.
The 2.0-litre Cannon Premium starts from $35,490 drive-away for the single cab-chassis 4x2 automatic – there’s no manual version offered – and comes with a 240mm-longer wheelbase than the dual-cab chassis, to measure 3470mm and stretch to 5703mm overall.
The cab-chassis pricing includes a factory steel tray.
As well as the tray, standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, side steps, keyless entry and start, climate control, power windows and leather-look seats.
There’s also a 12.3-inch centre touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility, voice commands, and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster.
The 2.0-litre brings a braked towing capacity of 3200kg where the 2.4-litre offers 3500kg, but with a lower 7.6L/100km rated combined fuel economy and an 1150kg maximum payload – the highest in the range - for the single cab-chassis 4x2.
The Premium dual-cab sits on the standard wheelbase and adds on-demand 4x4 with a rear differential lock and selectable drive modes (including Standard, Eco, Sport, 4H and 4L).
It also has roof rails, a chrome sports bar, power mirrors and a spray-in tub liner, with central locking that extends to the tailgate.
The cabin adds six-speaker audio (up from four) and a leather-look steering wheel wrap.
The 4x4 dual-cab Cannon Premium has a 3200kg tow-rating, 995kg maximum payload and 8.1L/100km rated fuel use figure.
Also new for 2025 is a cab-chassis version of the dual-cab Cannon Lux, with 4x4 and the larger 2.4-litre engine, priced at $42,490 drive-away – unusually $1000 more than the tubbed version.
It sits on the standard 3230mm wheelbase and its price includes a factory tray, with a 3500kg braked towing capacity, 995kg maximum payload and 8.4L/100km claimed fuel economy.
