BYD's plug-in ute has taken the sales charts by storm, but even it isn't immune to a discount, offering customers a healthy saving to better compete with its GWM rival.

BYD has rolled out its first drive-away offer for its Shark 6 plug-in hybrid, as competition heats up in the ute category.

Until September 30, 2025, the Shark 6 is listed for $59,400 drive-away for private buyers in all states and territories bar the Northern Territory, a saving of up to about $3000 over the regular drive-away price, depending on where it is registered.

In the Northern Territory, where on-road costs are lower, the $59,400 offer would represent a price increase, so there the Shark 6 retains its regular $59,374.25 drive-away tag, according to the BYD website.

The Shark 6 special offer splits the two variants of its GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV rival, the $57,490 drive-away Lux and $64,490 drive-away Ultra.

Ford Ranger PHEV drive-away prices range from $76,349 to $81,197 for the entry-grade XLT, depending on the state of registration – though the brand is currently running finance offers for customers using an ABN.

The Shark 6 is offered in a single Premium variant, priced from $57,900 plus on-road costs, and now available in five colours, with the recent addition of $700 Outback Orange and Mist Grey options.

The Shark 6 – new to the market this year – has accounted for nearly one in 10 four-wheel-drive ute sales so far this year, coinciding with declines of 13.6 per cent for the Ford Ranger 4x4, and 9.8 per cent for the Toyota HiLux 4x4.
