Alfa Romeo’s new compact SUV arrives in Australia as a challenger to the Audi Q2 with sharp pricing and comprehensive equipment on both hybrid and EV versions.

2025 Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida

The 2025 Alfa Romeo Junior compact SUV will launch in Australia with a starting price of $45,900 plus on-road costs – the brand's least expensive new car since the Giulietta hatch left showrooms about five years ago.

The Junior will offer the same array of features across both hybrid and electric versions.

Standard equipment includes 10.25-inch infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 10.25-inch digital instruments, LED matrix headlights, six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, leather steering wheel, and fabric and synthetic-leather seat trim.

Australian-delivered Juniors will be equipped with 18-inch ‘Petali’ alloy wheels with a machined face, two-tone paint with a black roof, and a ‘Scudetto Leggenda’ grille insert featuring Alfa Romeo script atop a mesh insert.

Other standard equipment includes single-zone climate control, driver’s seat massage function, and a hands-free powered tailgate.

Driver-assist technology includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-centring, traffic sign recognition, and a rear-view camera.

The Alfa Romeo Junior is positioned similarly to the Audi Q2, and is just 43mm shorter nose to tail, with a starting price $3500 cheaper before on-road costs. 

The Junior Ibrida is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

The petrol engine is rated at 100kW/230Nm, while the e-motor can contribute 21kW, with a combined output listed at 107kW.

The Junior Ibrida drives through a six-speed automatic transmission with front wheel drive.

Fuel consumption is rated at 4.1 litres per 100km, and 0-100km/h acceleration is claimed at 8.9 seconds.

Sitting $12,000 above the Ibrida, the pure-electric Junior Elettrica starts from $57,900 plus on-road costs.

The Junior Elettrica retains front-wheel drive with a single electric motor rated at 115kW/260Nm.

Despite the higher outputs, acceleration is slightly slower, at 9.0 seconds to 100km/h. The difference comes down to a 1545kg tare weight for the Elettrica, versus 1280kg for the Ibrida.

WLTP-rated driving range for the Junior Elettrica is 407km, and energy consumption is listed at 15.2kWh/100km.

The electric Junior is equipped with a 54kWh (gross) lithium-ion battery, with a 51kWh useable capacity.

The battery can be recharged at a maximum of 11kW on an AC charger, or up to 100kW on a compatible DC charger, allowing a 20-80 per cent top-up in a claimed 27 minutes.

Detail changes between the two powertrains relate primarily to the mechanical specification with differences in boot space (415L hybrid, 400L EV), rear brake discs (249mm hybrid, 268mm EV), rear suspension (torsion beam on both, with a Panhard bar on hybrid only), and wheelbase (2557mm hybrid, 2562mm EV).

Other changes include visible exhaust tips and shift paddles on the hybrid, not fitted to the EV.

The optional equipment for the Junior range includes a panoramic sunroof (price TBC) and paint, with White Sempione and a Black roof available at no extra cost.

Meanwhile, Red Brera/black, Blue Navigli/Black, Arese Steel/Black, Galleria Light Grey/Black, and single-tone Black Tortona attract a $1990 surcharge.

The Junior matches the rest of the Alfa Romeo range with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, while the Junior EV adds eight years or 160,000km of coverage for the high-voltage battery.
