Think you’re seeing a lot of Ford Ranger Raptors on the road? Australians are buying them in droves.
Nearly one in eight Ford Ranger utes sold in Australia is the most expensive model, the high-performance Raptor priced from $90,690 plus on-road costs, sales data reveals.
Data provided by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows Ford has reported 39,729 Ranger 4x4 vehicles as sold so far this year, with 4765 of them (12 per cent) being the 292kW/583Nm, 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6-powered Raptor.
Less than 2 per cent (707 examples) are the new plug-in hybrid Ranger PHEV.
The Raptors are popular with ABN holders, with almost two-thirds of all of the utes (62.4 per cent) being attributed to business buyers, with another 1786 (37.5 per cent) finding homes with private purchasers.
If you’re after a fun hire car, there are eight Ford Ranger Raptors listed as purchased by rental companies.
That said, with 4765 sales, if the Ford Ranger Raptor were its own model, it would outsell more than 30 per cent of the entire new car market by itself.
In fact, more Raptors have been sold in 2025 than the combined total sales of the Jeep (1470), Ram (2523) and Jaguar (466) brands in Australia.
The Raptor is one of only three petrol-powered, non-hybrid ‘regular-sized’ utes, with the Jeep Gladiator (282 sales) and Volkswagen Amarok TSI452 Aventura (187 sales) rounding out the mix.
For context, the $79,990 plus on-road costs petrol-powered Amarok makes up only 4.3 per cent of all Amarok sales.
